I was relatively late to the Birkenstock party. I bought my first pair during the pandemic with a desire for a comfy shoe alternative for my day-to-day. Now, I barely go a day without wearing a pair. I'll admit they fit my "working mom in L.A." lifestyle to a T. From school drop-offs to casual meetings, they're the practical and cool brand I turn to time and again.

The perception of the humble shoes has changed massively since I started in fashion. Their versatility, practicality, and laid-back simplicity are markers for their rise to fame among the fashion set. These days, you're far more likely to see a Who What Wear editor running around in a pair of Boston Clogs rather than stilettos.
