We Can't Keep Calm—These 30 New-to-Us Fashion Items Require a Level-10 Freak-Out

There's something about the month of September that makes us want to shop even more than we already do. Fashion month is in full swing, and with it comes droves of fresh inspiration and new ideas for what to wear and how to wear it. Meanwhile, crisp fall weather is just starting to rear its head in NYC, where many of our editors are based, so we're transitioning from our warm-weather to cool-weather wardrobes. All of this makes for the perfect storm of shopping, and our editors' order history can attest to it.

Among our editorial team, we've collectively reviewed thousands of fall's new arrivals and have inevitably purchased a handful of the very best ones. Today, we're pulling the receipts and showing you what we've personally added to our closets this month along with some inspirational outfit photos to show how we're styling our new-to-us picks. There's no doubt our editors are a stylish bunch. (I look to their Instagrams for my own style ideas.) So when I tell you these new buys are it, I think you'll agree.

Keep scrolling for the new fashion favorites we added to our closets in September—from the rosette-adorned dress that Sierra is convincing us on to the new Loewe It bag I'm a fan of and Kat's on-trend $80  shoe find. These are the season's top-notch picks, according to us.

"Lady Jackets have been trending for a while, and for good reason. The best way to style them is taking a page from Miu Miu's book with a little crew-neck white tee popping out around the collar."

"Sperry is known for its boat shoes, but the brand's sneakers are underrated in my opinion. We co-designed this pair, and they're so wearable, chic (I love the slightly retro feel to them), and super comfortable."

"As far as statement shoes, there's no better color to try than red, in my opinion. It's strangely wearable, especially in on-trend ballet flats!"

Bobby Schuessler, Market Director

"Madewell is one of my go-to stores. The men's offering is top-notch. The fit of this white button-down shirt and the cut of these jeans is where it's at."

"Red is the moment, and I can't get over how soft this sweater from Pistola is. The oversize cut is also dreamy."

"Chunky knits are my jam. I basically want to live in this stunner from Anine Bing."

Anna LaPlaca, Editor

"One thing about me is I love a matching set. I sourced this Pixie Market maxi skirt set from Shopbop and was shocked at the number of compliments that rolled in while I was wearing it. Not only is the fit impeccable, but each piece also has a completely different feel when styled solo. I experimented by wearing the top with jeans and the skirt with a white tee and flats. Fall has only just begun, but I already know this set will be the workhorse of my wardrobe."

"Everyone needs these Mary Jane flats, and that's a fact. I picked these up at the Oak + Fort store when I was getting my millionth heel-related blister during fashion week, and they were such a godsend. I've already convinced at least five people to get them, too, because they hit on a key fall shoe trend at a very approachable price."

"I borrowed this Loewe Paseo Bag from Rebag to carry during fashion week, and I can't speak more highly of it. Of course, a black shoulder bag will go with anything, but the beautiful gold-chain straps here are what make it feel so special and practical. Lately, I've been drawn to Loewe bags much more than other designer labels, and I officially have the Paseo on my wish list now."

"Helsa is the rising brand that has been taking over my Instagram feed lately. Every item it has created feels very cool, and it has become the go-to destination for wardrobe staples. I have seen this dress everywhere in black, and I wanted to give it a try for myself—with a twist. The dress in this shade of ivory was such a fun statement piece to wear, and although I chose to wear it for a casual event, it will definitely come out again for a formal occasion in the future."

"I haven't gotten as many compliments on an item as this one in a very long time. My grandma said it was retro, my friends called it an It-girl statement maker, and I called it the perfect fit. Pairing it with any top is an easy way to tell the world that you're a fashion person."

"Lately, some of my favorite designers have been showcasing a lot of long tops with slouchy pants. Since this has been a look that I've been wanting to replicate for a long time, I finally got my hands on this top from Mirae, and it ended up feeling way cooler to me than just throwing on a dress. Next up, I think I simply must have it in black."

"I've been wearing these little sphere hoops nonstop since I got them. They're a fun change from my usual basic gold hoops."

"After thinking about these red Reformation mules every day for a couple of weeks, I decided to buy them, and I have zero regrets. They look great with jeans, which is what I wear daily in the fall."

"While button-downs are a staple in my year-round wardrobe, I like to update my collection season to season. This silky striped one from Rails is one of my new favorites for fall. It fits beautifully and elevates any outfit I wear. It's a perfect day-to-night piece that I can wear from boardroom to bar seamlessly."

"Fall in L.A. means you still get to wear plenty of linen! This brown maxi skirt is giving autumnal vibes yet still feels lightweight enough to wear while it's in the low 70s."

"I've been styling it with this Reformation vest, which looks so elevated and luxe—I always get compliments on it. I can't wait to get my hands on the black one too."

"Leopard is always my print of choice, so when I saw this maxi dress, I knew it had to be mine. As the temperatures cool, I'll throw it on with a sweater and boots to give it the longevity it deserves."

Grace O'Connell-Joshua, Assistant Shopping Editor

"If there is one thing I love, it's a House of CB dress. The cuts of its pieces are so flattering and always make me look my best. When I saw this cap-sleeve olive-green midi dress, I knew I had to have it. I got so many compliments on this dress when I wore it. If you have a cocktail party coming up, I highly recommend getting your hands on this one."

"I know these are on the pricey side, but when I tell you I have never loved a pair of sunglasses as much as these sunglasses… They are the perfect combination of trendy and timeless. I'm a huge fan of all things Bottega Veneta, so these have been on my wish list for a long time. I was over the moon to finally be getting my hands on them. I wore them with basically every outfit during New York Fashion Week."

Anneliese Dominguez, Senior Editor, Branded Content

"I have plenty of long skirts in my closet, but this corduroy version? A must for fall."

"I love this sleeveless turtleneck for the not-quite-fall-weather days. It's perfect by itself but is so cute paired under jackets."

"L.A. decided it's abiding by the fall-weather rules, and it's been cozy day after cozy day. I've been wanting to get my hands on an Elwood set since I see them on just about every influencer and celebrity these days. And my time finally came. My husband and I have been living in these sets for movie nights, cloudy-day beach walks, and everything in between. There's nothing better."

"I'm a big necklace person, but since I wear the hijab, it's always tough to find necklaces that are long enough to wear. I received this Ben Amun necklace from my husband for my birthday after raving about it when I saw it on Moda Operandi social media manager Kristen Grace Lam, and it's quickly become my favorite piece of jewelry. I can adjust the length, and it just adds a little something special to any simple ensemble."

"I've only worn these Abercrombie & Fitch trousers twice, but I already know it's going to be my most-worn item this fall. They're comfortable, but my favorite part of the pants is that they have a barrel-like fit as well as a tapered leg. When I posted them to my Instagram Stories, people of all ages were DM'ing me to ask where they were from. I was never someone who shopped at Abercrombie & Fitch when it first was big, but I'm enjoying the brand's revival."

"Sometimes, it's the affordable items you bought on a whim that end up being the game changers in your wardrobe, and that's exactly how these red tights from Amazon have been for me. I've already worn them with coordinating red heels but plan to wear them plenty this fall. My next look is going to be red tights, ballet flats, wide-leg jeans, and a cozy gray sweater. I love that it's a simple and cheap buy but makes any outfit runway ready."

"Now that the weather is getting a bit chillier, i've been really into denim tops and jackets. I love the utility style of this top because it adds a bit of edge to an otherwise simple shirt. I paired it with a white maxi skirt to make for a weather-appropriate transitional look."

"I've been getting endless compliments on this accordion-style bag. The chocolate brown is so rich and perfect for fall. I've been slinging it over my shoulder with just about every look."

"This buttery yellow is a major trend for fall, so I played into it with this wool-blend sweater. The asymmetrical neckline and slightly sheer fabric feel super elevated and 2023."
